LBC Youth - COLLIDE

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Temptations are a part of life, but always remember that God is ALWAYS faithful and will ALWAYS help you overcome whatever comes your way.

1 CORINTHIANS 10:13 -- "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Our goal is to provide an open atmosphere where students can know that they matter.  A place where students can be honest, open, heard, accepted, and equipped to live as a light for Christ!  We begin each Wednesday night @ 6:30pm.  It is a time of fun, faith, and fellowship.  Each week starts with a good home-cooked meal.  After a time of games (football and basketball seem to be the favorites), we move to a Bible study time.  We tackle the big social and cultural issues that students face in their everyday lives -- and see what God's word says about them and how they can apply the truths contained on the pages of Scripture to their daily walk with Christ.

STUDENTS REACHING OUR COMMUNITY

Our group has had the privilege to work along side a great ministry here in Western North Carolina.  The Least of These (LOT) ministry feeds the homeless each and every week here in Asheville.  Every Saturday morning you can hear fresh sausage and bacon frying up, eggs being scrambled, and fresh coffee brewing.  They feed anywhere from 70-100 people on any given Saturday.  On top of that, they provide clothing for them as well.

UPCOMING EVENTS

June 24//July 22//August 26//September 23//October 28//November 25//December 23 --  Partnering with the Least of These (LOT) ministry in downtown AVL.  We will depart the FLC @ 7:15 am, grab a quick biscuit at Bojangles, and head over to S. French Broad Ave.  We help out in the parking lot of the Summitt Church.  We are collecting gently used clothing for both men and women, plus any shoes that you are willing to donate.  We would love to take some hygiene bags to hand out next month.  In order to make this happen we will need toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, bars of soap, shampoo, dental floss, etc. (travel size please).  These bags will be a blessing for the people we serve at LOT.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LESSON SCHEDULE

We have started a new series on Wednesday nights called "Overcoming Temptation"  - a study on the topic of what temptations are common to today's teens.  Here is a breakdown of the week by week schedule:

*May 31 -- finishing Session #2 "Man's Strength vs. God's Strength" -- We do not have the strength to resist temptations by ourselves. God gives us His power and strength to resist and overcome temptations as we trust Him.

*June 7 -- Session #3 "Resist the Devil" -- When resisting temptations, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just be still. Just stand. Don’t sit down or move around; just stand firm on the word and promises of God and in so doing, you will wear the devil out, and he will flee from you.

*June 14 -- Session #4 "Influence" -- Influence is a powerful thing. Good influence is awesome, but negative influence can be detrimental on so many levels. Influence does not come from just our friends. We are influenced by our family, the TV, the internet, social media, and the list goes on. Therefore, it is critical that we allow God’s word to shape our lives and be the compass that directs us.

*June 21 -- Session #5 "Don't Give Up" -- Remember, that whatever we do in this life, whatever we try to accomplish, and yes, even when we are tempted to give up, God is always with us.

*June 28 -- Session #6 "Resisting Laziness"  -- Life can be complicated at times, and undoubtedly we will have moments that will make us want to lie down and go to sleep just so that we don’t have to deal with the frustration, the disappointment and the pressures of life. If we’re not careful, we can become content, which may then turn into laziness. But the God of all grace who has called us to His eternal glory in Christ will HIMSELF restore and strengthen us and give us power to resist the temptation to be lazy.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL:  ODYSSEY TO OUTER SPACE (JULY 16-19, 2017 FROM 5:30PM TO 8:00PM)

We will join together each night for games, music, Bible study, crafts, and good food.  This year we will be astronauts taking an odyssey into outer space and God's Word to explore who God is.  An odyssey is a long eventful journey where many changes take place.  God is altogether perfect and never changes.  So as we take this journey to explore who God is, we want Him to change us into what He wants us to be.
