The Divine Wager

The Divine Wager

Passage: Job 1:1-22

Preacher: Derrick McCarson

Series: The Sovereign and the Suffering: The Book of Job

Detail:

In the New Testament, Job is held up as a model of heroic endurance. James 5:11 says, Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. Although, Job is considered the most ancient book in the Bible it is still relevant today, because it attempts to plumb the depths of the human condition. Job, more so than any other book, tries to unravel the mystery of mans suffering in light of Gods sovereignty. In the opening chapter we get an exclusive window behind the scenes as God and Satan make a deal concerning Job. Amazingly, Job remains ignorant of the true reason behind his plight"that he is the object of a Divine wager!
